It's time for garlic planting, we have started planting ours we are planting 3 varieties this year Purple Glaze, elephant and a hard neck variety that I can't remember the name of because the turkeys got ahold of the bag and the name was on it. Here are some garlic facts so stay healthy go plant some garlic.

Garlic Facts

Garlic has germanium in it. Germanium is an anti-cancer agent, and garlic has more of it than any other herb. In lab tests, mice fed garlic showed no cancer development, whereas mice that weren't fed garlic showed at least some. In fact, garlic has been shown to retard tumor growth in human subjects in some parts of the world.

Another benefit of garlic is it helps regulate the body's blood pressure. So whether you have problems with low or high blood pressure, garlic can help equalize it.

Garlic helps strengthen your body's defenses against allergies; helps loosen plaque from the artery walls; helps regulate your blood sugar levels; and is the best choice for killing and expelling parasites such as pin worms from the human body.

In addition to all these health benefits, garlic is packed with vitamins and nutrients. Some of these include protein, potassium,Vitamins A, B, B2, and C, Calcium, Zinc and many others.

In a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, allicin powder was found to reduce the incidence of the common cold by over 50%.

Garlic and onions are toxic to cats and dogs.

Garlic can thin the blood similar to the effect of Aspirin.

Drinking lemon juice or eating a few slices of lemon will stop bad garlic breath.

It is traditional to plant garlic on the shortest day of the year. Whether this is for symbolic or practical reasons is unclear.

Wow! It's been quite a while since I've posted, most of you by this time probably thought that I was dead. I am however very much alive and you will just have to deal with my little posts until the nest time Rebecca posts. (which is no doubt the reason you are here.) However, I hope that I am somehow able to make it up to all of you (if any) who frequent this blog.

Anywho, I have been wanting to make a tutu for my little sister Liberty for quite some time now. It was only recently that I actually built up the courage to cut up all that beautiful material and make it into an even more beautiful tutu. I think that I was afraid that I would mess it up. (it is not at all entirely impossible that I still have.)

It was SO easy! I really want to make another one! I was thinking that they would make awesome christmas presents. For like cousins or *cough* Sisters *cough*.

Anyway, with the holiday season coming on I should be getting into my crafting mood again.

I took all these pictures with my iPod by the way. They're not too bad for that camera.

Supplies: Ribbon, Tulle (I got 1 yard of each color) , Scissors, and a paper towel roll.

First you cut your ribbon to fit the persons waist that you are making it for, and cut your tulle into strips. Then you tie the ribbon around the paper towel roll. And begin tying your strips on in whatever order you want (slip knot) until you have enough tho go around the persons waist and.... Ta-Da! There you have it. Your own tutu! It is so much fun! and very easy.

Threading a Needle

I always dread trying to thread a needle because the thread always seems to be so persistent and never wants to go in, I think that I have come up with a solution to this problem. I was reading a while ago that if, instead of trying to shove the thread in there by either licking it or any other means imaginable, you simple get the eye of the needle moistened and the saliva acts as a lubricant and draws your thread into it. At first I was a bit skeptical but after trying it a few times I found that it worked out and made threading a needle allot easier!

Milking

Well, as some of you may know, we have now been milking our cow Willow since the middle of June (the calf however is no longer with us ;( ) and generally get 2-3 gallons per milking, we usually milk twice a day so we generally get 6 gallons a day!! There is no shortage of milk at our house!! My Siblings and I usually take turns milking in the morning and evenings. So far we have all (well almost all...) enjoyed the milk allot and it does save on allot of other things such as butter, eggs, milk...etc. It is just one more little thing that we can thank the lord that he has provided! This leads me to my last comment......The guy who discovered milk, what in the world was he doing with that cow??

I have been added to the blog. I am Josiah Woltersdorf, and here are a few things about me:

I am growing potatoes and corn this year
I helped mom set up the "pig-tiller"
I have helped mom move said tiller
I love to play guitar
I dink around on the piano
I am not that great at roto-tilling, but of course am getting better
I am willing to sell tickets to anyone who wants to watch me rototill
I work with my dad in a business called Accessible Comforts

And there is a lot more, but this is a good starter list. Oh, yeah, and speaking of starters, I have to start thinking about when I am going to put the corn starts in the ground.

The Pig o tiller

I was trying to figure out how I was going to get my garden tilled. It was virgin soil since I added 400 sq. ft. to my garden this year. I was not looking forward to tilling it with my pony. I have 16 piglets and thought why can't they do the first tilling? So I Found some old stock gates my neighbor had in her drive way and asked if I could borrow them. They ended up being the perfect size and not to heavy, I can move it myself and the pigs can't get out. I felt like a "real lady of genius"

That was not the only success I had that weekend I also am very proud of my green been poles I designed. Since last years kept falling over (it was very annoying) I was determined to conquer the problem. Thanks be to God He takes care of me and provided every thing I needed for these projects and I did not have to buy a thing.
